Why was the Stonehenge built? The Stonehenge, in Wiltshire, England, is a set of earthworks. They are timbre, earth and stoneworks, which have been re-modelled several times over the last thousand years. No one is sure about why it was built, but there are several theories. The common belief is that it was constructed as a holy place. However, in the 60s, an American astronomer opined that the Stonehenge was an observatory and calendar. As for now, its real motives are still a mystery.
