Films first

Rituparno Ghosh’s Shob Charitro Kalponik, Goutam Ghose’s Kalbela... Swapan Saha’s Jamairaja. After two arty films, TV girl Pauli Dam has broken into Tolly’s potboiler big league. The dusky actress has already bid an unofficial adieu to the small screen to prance around Prosenjit in the Swapan Saha comedy.

“I have a very meaty role opposite Bumbada (Prosenjit) in Jamairaja. My character is very sweet and bubbly,” she says, unwilling to reveal more.

The soaps hit hard by Pauli’s disappearance are Zee Bangla’s Khunje Berai Kachher Manush (where she’s Krishnakali, one of the lead roles) and ETV Bangla’s Tithir Atithi (where she is Leena Sen, a negative character).

“I had to quit Kachher Manush because my dates were clashing with Jamairaja’s. I tried to adjust but had to give up finally. I haven’t yet left Tithir Atithi but I am not shooting my portion right now. I won’t quit TV but I will only do central characters from now on. I want to concentrate more on films,” she says.

To prove her point, Pauli has signed Aakash Bangla’s mega Chena Achena, where she will play “a responsible girl from a middle-class family” and which she plans to juggle with two untitled films.

“I am looking forward to these two films. I play a Muslim girl in the film by Partha Ganguly. In Atanu Ghosh’s film, my co-stars are Indrani Halder, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Rudranil Ghosh. We will start shooting in November,” says Pauli, hoping to make a mark with the three ready-to-release films — Shob Charitro Kalponik, Kaalbela and Aniruddha Bhattacharya’s Box No. 1313.
