CESC net profit rises 33%

Oct. 30: CESC Ltd today reported a 33.33 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 124 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, from Rs 93 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

Net sales of the company rose to Rs 755 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 736 crore in the year-ago period. For the six months ended September 30, CESC has posted a net profit of Rs 218 crore against Rs 175 crore in the same period a year ago.

EIH skids

EIH Ltd today said its profit after tax for the second quarter ended September 30 stood at Rs 31.31 crore, a 26.76 per cent decline from Rs 42.75 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

The total income of the company increased to Rs 245.86 crore from Rs 228.87 crore in the year-ago quarter. For the six months ended September 30, EIH’s profit after tax fell to Rs 69.82 crore from Rs 79.45 crore a year ago.

MTNL net

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has posted a marginal 1.38 per cent decline in its profit for the second quarter ended September 30 at Rs 91.86 against a net profit of Rs 93.15 crore in the year-ago quarter.

The total income rose to Rs 1,359.84 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 1,332.85 crore a year ago.

Srei show

Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd has reported a 22.79 per cent growth rate in profit after tax during the first six months of the current fiscal against the same period a year ago. The company’s net profit rose to Rs 69.38 crore from Rs 56.50 crore last year.

“However, the net profit of the company has slipped to Rs 26.18 crore in the July-September quarter from Rs 33.18 crore a year ago, because of higher interest outgo in the second quarter that saw a steep rise in interest rates,” said Sunil Kanoria, joint managing director of the company.

Birla Corp

Birla Corporation Ltd has reported a turnover of Rs 431.49 crore in the second quarter of 2008-09 against Rs 455.83 crore a year ago. The net profit and earning per share stood at Rs 59.70 crore (Rs 103.13 crore) and Rs 7.75 (Rs 13.39), respectively.
