Siliguri, Oct. 27: Inauguration of forest cottages and an awareness drive are some of the programmes that foresters of Jalpaiguri have chalked out to observe the state wildlife week beginning November 5.
“Four cottages, each with a double bed room, have been built at Bichabhanga close to Gorumara National Park and Lataguri. These will be opened on November 6 and will be run by eco development committee members as an alternative means of their income,” said Tapas Das, the divisional forest officer (wildlife-II). The tariffs are yet to be fixed.
The awareness drive will be conducted for the drivers and the guards of the trains going on the tracks in the Dooars. A number of elephants and leopards have been killed on the tracks.
“We will post school students at New Mal Junction and Binnaguri stations where they will request the train drivers to maintain a speed limit on this route,” said Biman Biswas, the additional divisional forest officer.
