5 caught with crackers

Five persons were arrested from Lake Town and Salt Lake on Sunday night for selling banned crackers. More than 30 kg of illegal fireworks were seized from them. Cops have started checking vehicles entering Salt Lake to prevent residents from bringing in banned crackers. People living in the township can call 94324 56633 to lodge complaints on violation of sound norms.

Malaria

Urmila Das, 50, a resident of Dover Terrace, was admitted to Sambhunath Pandit Hospital with malignant malaria on Monday. Das has been suffering from fever for the past two days. Blood tests confirmed malignant malaria.

Found dead

A 70-year-old man was found dead in Salt Lake on Monday afternoon. He was lying on the road opposite AMRI Hospital since morning. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Arrest

Choton Das and two others were arrested on Wednesday night from a hideout in Rajarhat for beating trader Prasanta Sarkar last Friday. Sarkar had refused to give puja subscription.

Flights

Air India’s Calcutta-Kathmandu flight was cancelled on Monday following a snag. The aircraft was sent for repair after the fault was detected. But it could not take off even after repair as the weather in Kathmandu deteriorated. It will fly with 82 passengers on Tuesday. A Druk Air flight on the Bangkok-Calcutta-Paro route, too, was stranded in Calcutta on Monday because of bad weather in Paro. It will take off on Tuesday.

Train service

Eastern Railway has announced that trains will not run on the Baruipur-Diamond Harbour section from 1.15am to 3.15am on November 2 and 3 because of repairs.
