3-1 win for Moirang

Imphal, Oct. 20: All Moirang Hockey Association trounced Hockey Union 5-0 in the second edition of the state-level under-14 six-a-side Hockey Tournament 2008 at Wankhei Cosmopolitan ground today.

The match was played on half the size of a normal turf used in the original format of the game.

All Moirang Hockey Association proved to be too hot to handle for the Hockey Union boys who meekly surrendered today.

The Hockey Union boys wasted several opportunities because of lack of ball-trapping skills.

For the Moirang side, H. Roshankumar Singh drew first blood in the 11th minute to take the lead in the first half.

Later, K. Ibungo Singh scored three goals in the 31st, 46th and 49th minutes and M. Dinesh Singh increased the goal tally by scoring in the 44th minute.

In another match, Super Sporting Association Charangpat thrashed Moral Education Intellectual & Renascent Athletic Association 16-1.

This is by far the most humiliating defeat for Moral Education in a six-a-side format though the side performed well in the original format of the game.

A. Mani Singh led the Super Sporting Association assault scoring six goals. S. Manisana Singh scored five more and S. Uttam Singh pumped in another four. T. Arjun Singh scored one goal for SSA. The lone face-saving goal for Moral Education team came from Th. Lingthoingamba Singh in the first half.

In the girls’ section, Moral Education Intellectual & Renascent Athletic Association held SAI RC to a 2-2 draw in the first state-level Women’s Six-a-Side Hockey Tournament 2008 played at the same venue.

Moral Education girls started the game on a promising note with Th. Kiranbala Devi scoring the first goal in the sixth minute, but could not hold for long as Gitarani Devi scored the equaliser for SAI RC in the 15th minute.

Not to be outdone by its opponent, Moral Education changed tactics, prowling on the goal line and proving good enough as Arunkumari Devi scored in the 27 minute and helped her team take a 2-1 lead in the first half.

There was a long dry spell when goals eluded both sides, till Mandakini Devi of SAI RC came up with the equaliser in the 57th minute.
