Multa arrests

Nagaon, Oct. 15: Two activists of the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (Multa), Abdul Mannan, 28, and Samsul Haque, 25, were arrested by a joint team of police and security forces from Kachuwa Gadhara today.

They deposited two grenades and a pistol.

Extortion

Dhubri: Three suspected Ulfa militants, Indrajit Roy, 30, from Baterhat, Nihar Barua, 25, from Coochbehar and Sheikh Mohammed, 35, from Chapor were apprehended by the 21 Jat Regiment on Wednesday. One US-made 7.65 mm pistol, 2 magazines, six rounds of live ammunition and one mobile set with SIM cards were found on the trio, who ran an extortion racket.

Mishap

Tinsukia: A 32-year-old youth, Suraj Tamang, died after a car hit his cycle on National Highway 153 in Tinsukia on Wednesday. The driver of the car later surrendered at Lekhapani police station.

Inauguration

Sonari: The office building of Charaideo rural roads division was inaugurated by Sonari MLA Sarat Barkotoki on Wednesday. He hoped that the building would help expedite work.
