Recce for accreditation

Ranchi, Oct. 15: A 26-member team from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) would visit BIT, Mesra, from October 17 to October 19 to accredit different courses.

The earlier accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) — an autonomous body under AICTE — for different courses offered by the prestigious deemed university has expired, BIT Mesra, sources revealed.

BIT, Mesra, vice-chancellor P.K. Barhai told The Telegraph pharmaceutical, bio-technology, applied physics, applied mathematics, applied mechanics, civil engineering, new material and processing technology departments among others needed fresh accreditation.

“The accreditation by NBA would mean that we are providing quality education to the students. Once accredited, our students would get better employment opportunities. We are preparing details of all the required documents, profile of staff and infrastructure facilities,” said Barhai.

The AICTE team would basically look for teacher-student ratio, available infrastructure and campus environment.

This would be the first round of visit by the AICTE officials that would be followed by more visits in near future as BIT, Mesra, has applied for accreditation to other courses also.

Accredited programmes in technical institutions in the state include under-graduate (bachelor of engineering) courses at BIT, Sindri.

Besides BIT, Mesra’s undergraduate courses in civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics & communication engineering, mechanical engineering, production engineering, postgraduate courses in control system, microwave engineering, soil mechanics engineering, mechanical engineering, space engineering and rocketry got accredited in the past either for three years or five years, but in all cases accreditation gained in 2002-03 expired.

The third technical institution in Jharkhand that enjoys NBA accreditation is National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology (NIFFT) in Hatia (Ranchi).
