Ashim likely to be out for 2 weeks

East Bengal striker Ashim Biswas is likely to be out of action for two weeks. Ashim, who injured himself at practice on Tuesday morning, according to club sources, was prescribed full rest by the doctor. With Ashim injured and Edmilson Marques and Sunil Chhetri out, East Bengal are left with Parveen Kumar as their sole striker. It was learnt that coach Stanley Rozario is likely to push Yusif Yakubu upfront.

Golf meet

Amateur golfers from different parts of the country will lock horns in the Citi World Golfer’s Championship scheduled for tee off at The Tollygunge Golf Club from Saturday. Golfers will compete in one of five handicap flights. The Grande Finale will be held in Mumbai on November 3.

TFA trainee

City lad Sumit Das has been selected from among six juniors to train at the Tata Football Academy (TFA) in Jamshedpur. Das will be under probation for a period of three months.

Azhar wins

Mohammed Azhar beat fourth seed Nishchay Rawal 4-6, 6-7(3-7) while Nikhil Reddy defeated fifth seed Kuwar Singh Tater 6-4, 6-3 in the 2nd Asian 14 & Under Tennis t meet at the BTA on Tuesday.
