Three held with minor girl

Cooch Behar, Oct. 12: Three traffickers were arrested from the Indo-Bangla border at Tinbigha on Friday evening. Police also rescued a seven-year-old girl from them.

Sukil Roy, Ganesh Roy and Subrata Kabiraj were arrested from near the Kuchlibari area when they were roaming about suspiciously. The police said the three Indian youths were part of a gang.


Film fest

Siliguri: Over 50 movies will be screened in the first North Bengal Film Festival beginning Thursday in Jalpaiguri. Workshops and seminars on film-making will also be part of the four-day festival to be held at the Sarojendradev Raikat art complex.


Run over

Siliguri: Pradip Pramanik (18) of Ghoshpukur in Phansidewa was run over by a tractor on PWD Road on Sunday evening. Police seized the vehicle but the driver fled.


‘Killer’ wife

Gangtok: A woman was arrested for killing her husband at Shotak village in East Sikkim on Friday. Sanchamaya Tamang (55) had hit her husband with a firewood after Tikaram Tamang (65) accused her of having an extra marital affair.


Body found

Islampur: The body of an unidentified woman, aged around 30, was recovered by Ckakulia police from the same locality on Sunday. Police said there was no external injury marks on the body.


Army assault

Gangtok: Two officers of the Indian army were arrested for allegedly assaulting a businessman near the Banjhakri waterfall on the Gangtok-Ranka road on Friday. Following a complaint from the trader, Major Sanjay Pillai and Major Ashwani Dangal of the Signals Regiment under 17 Mountain Division were held and handed over to military police.


Idol protest

Islampur: Members of the Dalkhola Bidrohi Club have refused to immerse its Durga idol to protest against the assault on their club president on Thursday by a few youths of the area.
