St Gallen (Switzerland): Switzerland bounced back from last month’s humiliating defeat to Luxembourg with a 2-1 win over Latvia in a World Cup Group Two qualifying match on Saturday.

Ottmar Hitzfeld’s team dominated the first half but had to wait till the 63rd minute before taking the lead with a close range strike from their all-time top scorer Alex Frei.

Meanwhile, Wales defeated Lichtenstein 2-0 in a Group Four qualifier, while former Europe champions Denmark overcame Malta 1-0.

In another match of that group, Finland defeated Azerbaijan 1-0 through a goal by Mikael Forssell, who scored from the spot.

In Africa, Gabon kept their World Cup hopes alive beating Libya 1-0, while Ivory Coast had a comfortable 3-0 victory over Madagascar.
