Bindra’s gun in Games museum
Chandigarh:
India’s only individual Olympic gold medal winner has had to part with his gun which brought him victory at the recent Beijing Olympic Games for placing it in the Olympic Museum in Switzerland.
In a statement here, Bindra said that in response to a communication from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), he has donated his gold winning gun, jacket and shoes to be placed in the Olympic Museum adding to its permanent collection.
FIA move
Paris:
The Canadian Grand Prix was dropped from the 2009 calendar on Tuesday, leaving North America without a Formula One race for the first time in 43 years.
Governing body FIA ratified its calendar for the coming season and omitted the Canadian GP, which was first held in 1967.
It’s the first time since 1987 that the Canadian GP won't be on the F1 schedule.
Ferrari idea
Milan:
Ferrari will use the ‘lollipop’ to tell drivers when to leave the pits in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix after their traffic light system caused chaos in Singapore.
“At this moment we need tranquillity and therefore we prefer to go back to the old system,” team boss Stefano Domenicali said.
Dope case
Berlin:
The German cycling federation (BDR) will begin disciplinary action against rider Stefan Schumacher on Tuesday following his reported positive doping test during the
Tour de France.
“The aim (of the disciplinary proceedings) will be a minimum ban of two years,” the federation said in a statement on its website.
Caddie’s fund
Auckland:
Tiger Woods’ New Zealand-born caddie has made the most of his employer’s injury-enforced absence from golf to raise $620,000 for child cancer sufferers.
Caddie Steve Williams presented the money to Auckland’s Starship Hospital to help fund the construction of a new cancer ward.
Hewitt back
Sydney:
Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt will make his return from hip surgery at the Sydney International tennis tournament in January, the Australian said in a statement on Tuesday.
Hewitt, who has won the warm-up event for the Australian Open four times, said his recovery from surgery following a disappointing showing at the Beijing Olympics in August was going well.
