Jankovic is now world No. 1

Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic officially replaced American Serena Williams as the women’s world number one on Monday. Jankovic who was the second seed, won the Stuttgart Grand Prix final on Sunday defeating unseeded Russian opponent Nadia Petrova 6-4, 6-3 with ease.

Riding on his sizzling performance in the Japan Open, Leander Paes gained two spots to be placed sixth in the ATP doubles world wankings, issued Monday.

Mahesh Bhupathi remains at the 12th position with 2680 points. Out of action Sania Mirza is on the verge of dropping out of top-100 as she lost seven places to be ranked 98th in the latest WTA rankings, but remained at 44 in the doubles ranking.
