3 bombs, 2 bikes seized
Islampur, Oct. 3: Three crude bombs were recovered and two motorcycles seized from Fakirani tea garden in Debijhora of Chopra block today.
A local Congress leader and his accomplices had gone to the garden to take over the plantation forcibly follwing the expiry of the lease. They fled the spot, leaving behind the bombs and motorcycles facing protests from workers. No complaint has been lodged.
Parking lots
Siliguri: Special parking arrangements have been made for the four days of Puja beginning Monday by Siliguri Traffic Police. Parking space has been provided near Tenzing Norgay bus stand, Margaret School, Darjeeling More and Vivekananda Road.
Four arrested
Siliguri: Four persons were arrested in two incidents on Thursday from Champasari and Siliguri Junction. Javed Mansuri and Vikas Verma of Tadong in East Sikkim were picked up from Junction for possessing without papers 250 Spasmoproxivon tablets. In another raid, Shyamal Bhowmik and Dilip Sarkar were held with a pick-up van loaded with teak worth Rs 1 lakh. The vehicle has been seized.
Extra trains
Siliguri: The railways will run 12 extra pairs of Rajdhani Express between Guwahati and New Delhi from October 5 to November 13 to cope with the festival rush. Northeast Frontier Railway said on Friday that the 2456Dn will leave Guwahati at 1.45pm on every Tuesday and Saturday, while the 2455Up will leave New Delhi at 2pm on every Sunday and Thursday.
Tea ex-gratia
Jalpaiguri: The Centre will pay Rs 1,000 as ex-gratia to each of the 15,000-odd families in the 13 closed tea gardens of the Dooars. Union minister Jairam Ramesh will distribute the money here on October 18.
