12 fall ill, finger at eatery

Jaigaon, Oct. 2: Twelve people were admitted to Birpara State General Hospital in the past 24 hours when they started vomiting and complained of stomach pain. All of them had taken curd at an eatery at Sishubari in Madarihat.

Nur Alam, a teacher of Sisubari Primary School, said while four persons were admitted to the hospital yesterday, eight were taken there today. Hospital sources said the patients had been administered saline and the condition of two of them was serious. No complaint has been lodged against the owner of the eatery.


Id celebration

Siliguri: The BSF personnel of Siliguri sector headquarters and 95th Battalion jointly celebrated Id on Radhabari campus on Thursday. The force also celebrated the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and distributed sweets to the people of Jutiakali village.


Body found

Jalpaiguri: The body of Nikhil Sarkar (27), a resident of Sahidgarh, was found by NH31D on the outskirts of Mainaguri on Thursday. An empty bottle of poison has also been found near the body that was sent for post-mortem. Members of the Mainaguri Byabsayee Samiti have demanded an investigation.


Resignation

Kurseong: The Kurseong branch secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League, Pranay Thapa, resigned from the party on Thursday along with 22 supporters. In a statement, he said the policies being followed by the party “were dividing the Gorkha community”.
