Fungus in saline

Calcutta, Oct. 2: Relatives of a man admitted in a Shibpur nursing home beat up four staff members tonight after they allegedly found fungus in the patient’s saline bottle.

Hirendranath Mullick’s relatives damaged a dispensary attached to the nursing home. Police reached around 11pm and rescued the four.

Aarushi case

New Delhi (PTI): Krishna and Rajkumar, the prime accused in the murders of Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help who were out on bail, have left the country for Nepal. “Rajkumar’s parents are in Nepal. Krishna’s family, too, hails from Nepal. So they have gone there,” Rajkumar’s lawyer Naresh Yadav said. But Yadav added the CBI could contact them both when needed.

IA hijacker

New Delhi (PTI): Lifer Abdul Latif, convicted of hijacking Indian Airlines flight IC-814 to Kandahar, should get the death penalty, the CBI has told Punjab and Haryana High Court. The agency has contended that Latif’s crime was no less grave than that committed by Afzal Guru, sentenced to death in the Parliament attack case.

Pak arrests

Vadodara (PTI): Twenty-nine Indian fishermen were arrested off the Kutch coast on Wednesday for allegedly entering Pakistani waters. The number of Indian fishermen in custody in Pakistan has reached 405, secretary of the National Fishermen Forum said.

Road closure

Srinagar (PTI): The Srinagar-Leh national highway, the only road link between Ladakh and the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, will be closed from October 31 to avert accidents on slippery stretches during winter, a defence spokesperson said in Srinagar on Thursday.

TV regulator

New Delhi (PTI): A body to regulate content on TV with a provision to fine violators became functional on Thursday. The nine-member body headed by former Chief Justice J.S. Verma can impose a fine of Rs 1 lakh. The body can also recommend revoking the licence of a broadcaster.
