Broad appointed Match Referee

Calcutta: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday appointed Chris Broad as Match Referee to oversee the proceedings of the ensuing four-match Test series between India and Australia, says A Staff Reporter.

According to an ICC release, Rudi Koertzen, Asad Rauf, Billy Bowden and Aleem Dar, will be the four umpires for the series.

While Rudi Koertzen and Asad Rauf will be in-charge of the first two Tests in Bangalore and Mohali, Billy Bowden and Aleem Dar will stand in the next two Tests in New Delhi and Nagpur.

Meanwhile, Javagal Srinath will be the Match Referee for both the upcoming ODI and Test series between Bangladesh and New Zealand to be held from October 9.

CA tribute

Melbourne: Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday paid a rich tribute to umpire Peter Parker after he announced his retirement from the game, ending a career spanning 15 years at the top level. Parker officiated in 10 Test matches and 65 one-dayers during his career, which began in 1993.

Ghosal ranking

New Delhi: Saurav Ghosal achieved a career-high world ranking of 39th on Wednesday, rising six places following his Ornano Open win.

The reigning national champion, who clinched his maiden PSA title outside India with the Ornano triumph, continues to be the highest-ranked Indian on the world list.
In the women’s rankings, Joshna Chinappa climbed up a spot to 38th. She is followed by Dipika Pallikal, who went up three notches to 54th.

Badminton

New Delhi: Four of the six Indian shuttlers including Arvind Bhat and Chetan Anand, advanced to the men's singles second round at the Bitburger Open badminton tournament in Saarbruecken, Germany on Wednesday. According to information received here, seventh seed Arvind beat German Hannes Kasbauer.

Billiards meet

Calcutta: Aamer Hossain will take on Brijesh Damani in the final of the BRC State Billiards Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club on Friday, says A Staff
