Rap on Apollo
New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI): The state consumer commission has asked Indraprastha Apollo Hospital to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation.
The hospital was rapped for failing to conduct timely medical tests on a patient and in another case for admitting a cancer patient and retaining him for 10 days although they did not have arrangements for his treatment.
Bomb hoax
Mumbai (PTI): Bomb threats were reported at two offices in Bandra Kurla Complex on Wednesday, police said. The family court and the Nabard office were evacuated. However, both the threats were found to be hoaxes, officers said.
Letter record
New Delhi (PTI): A couple have made it to the Guinness World Records for writing the maximum number of letters to editors of various Indian newspapers. Subhash Chandra Agrawal, a businessman, won the record of writing the maximum number of letters in a life span, while his wife Madhu wrote the maximum number of letters in a year.
Goa beaches
Panaji (PTI): Goa police said they would crack down on shacks around beaches to control illegal activities, including drug trade, from this tourism season. We will crack down on the shack owners who play loud music beyond stipulated period of time, serve liquor till midnight and also encourage drugs in their premises, police said.
Attack probe
Melbourne (PTI): Australian police said a gang of teenagers could be involved in an attack on Indian-born doctor Mukesh Haikerwal. Dr. Haikerwal, former head of the Australian Medical Association, was beaten up this weekend and is recovering after a brain surgery.
Murder arrest
Jammu (PTI): A hotel owner and his servant were arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly murdering a Vaishnodevi pilgrim after a dispute over the use of hotel facilities and payment. The duo allegedly hit him with a rod and left his body at a bus stand.
