New selectors set to meet on Wednesday

Calcutta: The new selection committee is set to meet for the first time, in Mumbai, on Wednesday. It hasn’t been announced as yet, but one learns Krishnamachari Srikkanth and his colleagues will pick the squad for the first two Tests versus Australia.

Srikkanth’s colleagues on the committee are — Yashpal Sharma, Narendra Hirwani, Surendra Bhave and Raja Venkat. Only Yashpal has been a national selector in the past.

The first two Tests will be played in Bangalore (from October 9) and Mohali (from October 17).

According to a PTI report, the conditioning-cum-fitness camp for the Test series begins in Bangalore from Monday.

All players who took part in the Irani Trophy, barring the ones who will be part of the President’s XI in the four-day game against the Aussies in Hyderabad, will participate.

National Cricket Academy director Dav Whatmore will be in charge of the camp.
