Boy kills friend

Howrah, Sept. 27: A 14 -year-old allegedly strangled his friend this morning after a tiff over where to sit while fishing in Howrah’s Shyampur, about 100km from Calcutta.

Police said Sanjib Patra, 12, the victim, and the other boy fought over a place from where they hoped to get the best catch. The alleged killer, who went to school after the incident, has been arrested.

Revolver duo

Calcutta: Two young men with revolvers tucked in their belts were held in Chetla and the Lake area on Friday evening. Sudip Bose and Bubai Sarkar had earlier been caught snatching.

Bag flutter

Calcutta: A guard raised the alarm over an unclaimed bag at a music store on Park Street on Saturday. Po- lice were called after its owner was found missing. The person, however, turned up soon.

Threat call: The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake received a hoax bomb threat on Saturday evening.

Desikottama

Santiniketan: Visva-Bharati will confer its highest honour, the Desikottama, on former Bhutan king Jigme Singye Wangchuk. He will get the award for his role in bringing democracy to his country.

Break-in bid

Calcutta: Three armed men were held on Friday night while allegedly preparing to break into a Lansdowne shop.
