Shops looted
Four criminals armed with knives and iron rods robbed Rs 1.28 lakh from two shops in Adabari on Monday. They also assaulted and injured an employee of one of the shops, identified as Nipendra Chandra Shah, 60. The owners of the shops have lodged a complaint with Jalukbari police outpost.
Excise raid
The excise department has seized 6,000 litres of illicit liquor and apprehended 50 people during raids in Basistha and Kahilipara. Those apprehended have been booked under the Assam Excise Act.
Pension
Old age pension was distributed among 243 beneficiaries from Wards 12 and 18 at a function organised in Bharalumukh on Monday. West Guwahati legislator Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Ward 12 councillor Prabhat Kumar Das and Ward 18 councillor D. Das were present.
Markets
The Kamrup (metro) district administration has asked the GMC to identify the temporary markets that have come up in the city and carry out an eviction drive as these markets cause traffic congestion.
Memorandum
The All Assam Super Bus Workers’ Union has submitted a memorandum to the management of the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Betkuchi, seeking facilities, including rest house and a health unit, for workers engaged at the terminus.
Meeting
The North East Network, an NGO, will organise a “people’s assembly” at the Assam State Museum Auditorium on Friday. The assembly has been called to commemorate the International Right to Know Day, which will be obse- rved worldwide on Sunday.

The senior citizens of Bharalumukh have asked the Kamrup (metro) administration to remove the alleged encroachments on the plot of land that belonged to Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla.
