Jamshedpur, Sept. 21: It was a seminar on upcoming career opportunities, but it was targeted at parents.
Often it is seen that the decision regarding what course a student will take up after completing school is taken by parents. Therefore, Hill Top School organised a seminar on career opportunities and parents were invited to take part in it.
Stalwarts from particular field were invited to share their views and inform parents about jobs beyond medicine and engineering.
“In most cases, it is the parents who decide what their children would take up for graduation. Students with artistic aptitude are forced to study IT just because their parents want it. Parents think that if their children do not take up science they will have no future. The seminar was organised to make parents understand that if students take up humanities or commerce they can also do well for themselves,” said Puneeta Chouhan, the principal of Hill Top School.
Bailey Bodhanwala, the managing director of Tarapore and Companies spoke about entrepreneurship while Nitin Madan Kulkarni, the managing director of Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority, spoke about civil services.
Sharat Chandran, the director of Kerala Public School delivered a lecture on animation with assistant general manager of architecture and town construction, Tata Motors, Romesh Kachroo coming up with his views on architecture and Sanjay Choudhary, the chief of corporate communication, informed students about career in advertising.
An interactive session followed where students came up with their queries.
“I am in Class XII and have often thought what next after board examination? This seminar has helped me to take a call,” said Tannistha Bhattacharjee.
“Jamshedpur, being an industrial city, parents think that the world ends with science. I am interested in civil services though Nitin sir highlighted the practical problems.,” said Kumari Payal, a Class XII student.
