Antibiotics have been modern medicines magic bullets. For some years, these wonder drugs have been facing a strong resistance from their arch enemy — the bacterium. Antibiotic-resistant bugs now face an old missile from grandmothers arsenal — honey. Unusually potent honey from manuka trees of New Zealand is being used to ward off marauding drugs. Scientists still havent identified the active ingredient that makes a drop of honey so potent but they arent averse to using it against drug- resistant bugs. Wily bacterium here we come!
