Woman found dead
Siliguri, Sept. 16: The body of a 24-year-old housewife was found in a pool of blood at her house in Lower Bhanunagar here this evening.
Anapurna said she had found her daughter-in-law Alpana Sharma’s room closed from inside when she had returned from work around 6pm. She called a neighbour and when both broke-opened the room, Alpana’s body was lying on the floor with a gash in her throat. The officer in charge of Bhaktinagar police station said the woman, married about three years ago, had no children and she had a strained relationship with the mother-in-law.
Doctors’ stir
Alipurduar: Members of Association for Health Services Doctors observed cease-work in the out-patients’ departments of JD and MJN Hospitals in Cooch Behar on Tuesday. The strike was to protest against an incident in which Tushar Bhowmik, an on-duty doctor in the emergency department of JD Hospital, was assaulted by a group of people.
Clashes
Islampur: At least 26 persons, including a police officer, were injured in three separate clashes between the supporters of the Congress and the CPM in the Islampur subdivision on Tuesday evening. While the rivals took on each other over the formation of gram sansads at Chotasuar and Debiganj, the villages in Karandighi and Goalpokhar blocks respectively, violence broke out at Babugach in Chopra block after a quarrel between two neighbours. Those injured are under treatment at different hospitals and health centres.
Bike seized
Islampur: Islampur police seized a stolen bike, an improvised revolver and two live cartridges from a house in Gunjaria village on Monday.
More flights
Siliguri: Air India will operate additional flights on the Delhi-Bagdogra route from September 28 to October 15 using Airbus A321. The new services will be in addition to the regular IC 880 flight. The additional flight, IC 1879, will take off from Delhi at 12 noon and reach Bagdogra at 1.50pm on Wednesdays and Sundays. The return flight, IC 1880, will leave Bagdogra at 2.40pm and reach Delhi at 4.30pm.
