Advani qualifies for World Snooker

Chennai: Pankaj Advani and Manan Chandra will be representing the country in the IBSF World Snooker Championship to be held at Wels, Austria from October 27 to November 8.

In the second selection trial by the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India here at the MCC Club, Advani continued with his fine form and topped the overall rankings on cumulative points.

Chandra finished third but based on combined points from two rounds of the selection trials, he edged out Alok Kumar and made it to the Indian team.

Jeev ends tied 11th

Cologne: Jeev Milkha Singh brought home his best card of the week — a four-under 68 — top cut through the clutter and finished tied 11th in the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

Compatriots SSP Chowrasia (313) finished tied 73rd, while Jyoti Randhawa finished last.

Atwal finishes tied 18th

Boise (US): Arjun Atwal signed off with a bogey-free three-under 68 to finish tied 18th in the Albertsons Boise Open on the Nationwide Tour.

After his rounds of 66 and 68, Atwal was very much in title contention before a poor third round of 73 — his lone over-par card of the week — put paid to his hopes.

Athletics meet

Calcutta: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will conduct event for youths during Trial Games in Pune from Friday, says A Staff Reporter.

According to a AFI release, medal winning athletes during 2007-08 in any National Junior Athletics Championships conducted by AFI and were born on 01.01.1990 or later are eligible to participate.

Calcutta: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday confirmed the appointments of Kushal Das as chief financial officer (CFO) and Iain Higgins as company lawyer replacing Faisal Hasnain and Urvasi Naidoo respectively, says A Staff Reporter.

Cronje film

Durban: A film based on late South African captain Hansie Cronje, who fell from grace following his involvement in the 2000 match-fixing scandal, is all set for release across South Africa on September 24.

Karun wins

Monza (Italy): Following his impressive second season in the GP2 Series, Karun Chandhok bagged the ”Best Driving Style” award in a glittering ceremony at the Sporting Club Monza. The 24-year-old driver ended the 20-race season in the top-10.
