Goa clubs cruise ahead
- Sporting club, dempo enter Indian league semi-finals

Jamshedpur, Sept. 14: Sporting Club De Goa and Dempo Sporting Club won their respective quarter-final encounters to advance into the semi-final of 5th Junior (Under-19) I-League.

In the first quarter-final match played at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Sporting Club De Goa defeated their rival Mahindra United 2-1. Mackroy Peixoto scored the first goal for winning team in 32nd minute.

Sporting led 1-0 at the breather. The second half saw the winning team maintaining that lead over the rivals. After many unsuccessful moves, Rosario Mendes of Sporting managed the second goal for his team in the 76th minute, tilting the scale in favour of his team. The only consolation for Mahindra United came in dying moments of the game. Kean Lewis scored the lone goal in 89th minute.

In the second encounter played at Keenan Stadium, Dempo Sporting Club defeated Sesa Academy by the same margin.

Both the team started off with good football and none was able to make a breakthrough in the lemon break. After the first half the scoreline read 0-0.

From the beginning of the second half of the match, Dempo boys looked charged and ready to take on their rivals. They made some good moves before Avelino Fernandes found the net in 69th minute. Fernandes managed his second goal for his team in 88th minute of the game. The Dempo boys looked confident when the score board read 2-0.

Sesa Academy came up with some game in the additional minutes of the match. Though it was too late to make up for the loss, Charles Miranda scored for Sesa Academy in 91st minute.

Four players of Dempo Sporting Club Alvis Fernandes, Terrence Fernandes, Aaron Fernandes and Prathumesh Maulingkar were shown yellow card during the match.

Eight teams — Mahindra United, Dempo Sporting Club, Sesa Academy, Sporting Club De Goa, East Bengal, Sail Academy, Tata Football Academy and JCT Football Club — have made it to the quarter-finals of tournament.
