Plum job offers come NIFFT’s way

Ranchi, Sept. 11: Engineering students have good jobs coming their way.

And to make it to the priority list of recruiters this year is the Hatia-based National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT). Not given its due since the past three years as far as campus placement is concerned, NIFFT is now raring to go.

The institute has managed to ensure that students get double the average salary and better opportunities this year, thanks to the boom in manufacturing and core engineering sectors.

“Jamshedpur-based Telcon has offered an annual package of about Rs 6 lakh to our students followed by Tata Motors offering around Rs 5 lakh per annum. Companies such as Hero Honda, TVS Motors, Vedanta Group, Jindal South West, Bosch, Maruti Udyog Limited, India Smelting & Refining Company, Larsen & Toubro have already visited our campus short-listing about 50 students of the 2009 batch”.

“The trend is encouraging as salaries have almost doubled and more companies are thronging the campus to recruit our students,” said K.K. Singh, in-charge of the training and placement cell of NIFFT.

NIFFT, a premier institution in manufacturing and foundry and forge studies, offers BTech in two basic engineering branches — manufacturing and material science and engineering (popularly known as metallurgy).

Besides, it offers an advance diploma course in foundry and forge technology. NIFFT also offers MTech in material science and engineering, foundry and forge technology, environmental science and engineering and manufacturing engineering.

The acting director of NIFFT, T. Kumar, told The Telegraph that they would ensure to work towards retaining the past glory of the institute.

It was during Heavy Engineering Corporation’s (HEC) boom time that NIFFT flourished.

The campus placement drive for the 2009 batch started in August 2008 only and would continue in phases till all the students would suitably placed, said Singh.

Around 150 students are pursuing BTech, MTech and advance diploma courses at this time.

The number of students would increase from this academic year, too, after the implementation of the OBC quota as recommended by the Centre.
