Guwahati league to resume

Guwahati, Sept. 11: The Guwahati Sports Association’s football league will resume tomorrow with the Nehru Stadium ground condition improving, following a few days of clear sunshine after nearly a month of inclement weather.

The RG Baruah Trophy Super Division League will resume with Food Corporation of India SC playing Sports Authority of India SC in a championship leg match tomorrow. The relegation leg of the tournament has been rendered inconsequential after Maharana Athletic Club pulled out midway through the tournament.

The first division league will also resume on Sunday with a vital clash between Green Valley SC and Gauhati Town Club.

The league matches were kept suspended since September 3, as the ground was rendered unplayable after a musical extravaganza, besides a month of incessant rain.

The Board of Sports, Assam has worked overtime ever since the extravaganza to repair the damage caused.

The Assam Cricket Association has also been left concerned in view of an assessment tour by a delegation of England and Wales Cricket Board and BCCI officials on September 23, ahead of the proposed One Day International between India and England on the same ground on November 29.

Although the delegates will tour the city for assessment of accommodation facility, the ACA apprehends that if the delegation visits the stadium too, it could warrant trouble. The ECB has been opposing Guwahati as a venue.
