Sinking feeling

It seems that global warming is making its effects felt. Totope, a village in Ghana's southern coast, is witnessing the change from close quarters. The village is gradually getting submerged and the villagers have been continuously moving away from the rising water level to save themselves. However, powerful waves have brought down their newly constructed houses. As the level of the Atlantic steadily rises, the villagers feel troubled as Totope lies squashed between the mighty Atlantic and the Songho Lagoon. Scientists have for long warned about the grim consequences of global warming and climate change. Apart from rising sea levels, floods, droughts, extinction of numerous species, increased demand for land and water are also some of the problems that mankind will have to grapple with in future.

Get set, go

Holly Budge, a british national, plans to make a parachute landing on Mount Everest in October. If Budge manages to execute her plan she will be the first woman to skydive on the highest peak in the world. She plans to jump off at 465 feet above Mount Everest, and land on a mountain meadow at 12,350 feet, reported Reuters. Budge’s plan is to take off from an airstrip in Syangboche in the Khumbhu region of northeast Nepal. Now isn’t that what high flying is about?
