Philips buys Alpha

Royal Philips Electronics has entered into an agreement to acquire India-based Alpha X-Ray Technologies. The company hopes to close the deal in the fourth quarter of 2008. Alpha will become part of the cardiovascular X-ray business within Philips’ healthcare sector once the deal is closed.

SBI service

The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced online collection of motor vehicle tax at six branches in Calcutta for the convenience of the owners of four-wheelers registered with the public vehicle department.

Aptech tie-up

Aptech Ltd has tied up with Italy’s Seven Rings International to train graduates in soft skills and corporate computing skill development. Under this agreement, Aptech will be the exclusive training delivery partner for participants of Seven Rings International in India.

Shriram profit

Shriram Transport Finance Company Ltd recorded a 73.91 per cent rise in revenue at Rs 835.50 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, 2008, compared with Rs 480.41 crore in the year-ago period.

GEI net

GEI Industrial Systems Ltd has recorded a net profit of Rs 2.71 crore in the first quarter of 2008-09 compared with Rs 1.52 crore last year. The net income for the first quarter stood at Rs 43.31 crore compared with Rs 34.64 crore last year.

UBI award

The United Bank of India (UBI) has received the National Award for being the best performing bank in the Northeast for 2007-08. The bank has bagged the award for the second successive year.

Fujitsu move

Fujitsu India Ltd, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and communication solutions, has appointed Tata Elxsi Ltd, the technology arm of the Tata group, as its national system integration partner.
