Bus in ditch, 20 injured

Siliguri, Sept. 7: At least 20 passengers of a minibus were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a roadside ditch at Rajganj’s Biharuhat today.

The driver of the minibus, which was on way to Siliguri from Rajganj, lost control over the vehicle. Two fire engines from Siliguri rushed to the spot, but villagers rescued the passengers. The injured were given first aid at the Rajganj block hospital and released.

Suicide

Islampur: Mumtaz Khatoon of Gunjaria in Islampur committed suicide by consuming poison on Saturday night at her residence. Police said the 18-year-old took the extreme step after she was scolded by her mother.

Power lifters

Siliguri: Three players from Darjeeling will participate in the Subjunior National (boys’ and girls) Power Lifting Championship at Mt Abu in Rajasthan from September 15 to 19. Manab Sarkar, Roni Saha and Chinmoy Saha of the Darjeeling District Power Lifting Association will take part in the 52kg, 75kg and the 56kg categories respectively.
