Sourav to open civic clinic

Siliguri, Sept. 7: A series of programmes await Sourav Ganguly when the former Team India captain comes here on Friday.

During the two-day visit, Sourav will inaugurate a health centre constructed by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, attend a felicitation programme, inaugurate flood lights at a cricket coaching centre and will be present at a fund-raising programme for the flood affected people of Bihar.

“About two years ago, Sourav had laid the foundation of the health centre at Deshbandhupara and wished to be present at the inauguration,” Asok Bhattacharya, the Bengal urban development minister, told journalists today. The civic body has constructed the three-storey building on a plot of five-cottah spending Rs 50 lakh.

Around 3pm, Sourav will be felicitated for becoming last year’s Asian Cricketer of the Year by students from different educational institutions at Dinabandhu Mancha. The cricketer will also interact with the students. “At 6.30pm, he will inaugurate the flood lights of Agragami Cricket Coaching Centre at Ashrampara,” the minister said.

On Saturday, Sourav will attend the fund-raising programme at the Dagapur amusement park at 10am. The money will go to the mayor’s relief fund. He will be felicitated by the panchayat samiti at Phansidewa and kick off a football tournament final before leaving for Calcutta.
