Cop in bribe net

Kanpur, Sept. 2 (PTI): A police inspector was arrested yesterday while allegedly offering a deputy inspector-general a bribe of Rs 6,000 to accept a plea filed by him.

Inspector S.L. Siddharta had been transferred on charges of negligence and the case was being heard by DIG Kamal Saxena.

Jaipur: Police have claimed Ahmedabad blasts plotter Mufti Abu Basheer had drafted the email sent a day after the May 13 Jaipur explosions. ADG A.K. Jain said Shahbaz Hussain, in custody for allegedly plotting the Jaipur blasts, revealed this during interrogation.

Indira aide

New Delhi (PTI): H.Y. Sharada Prasad, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s media adviser, died on Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was 84. He was bed-ridden for the last eight months, family sources said.

Known for his incisive writing in columns, the Mysorean is survived by wife Kamalamma and two sons.

Sharada Prasad also served under Morarji Desai and Rajiv Gandhi. He was in the PMO for 20 years, writing Prime Ministers’ speeches. He was one of Indira Gandhi’s closest aides. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and received the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration in 2001.

He was born in Bangalore, educated in the University of Mysore and jailed during the Quit India movement.

Student held

Moga (PTI): Police raided a hostel of a pharmacy institute in Moga on Monday and arrested a third-year student for alleged involvement in a recent robbery at an Overseas Bank branch in Jaipur. Yogesh Sharma’s name cropped up during an interrogation of two persons.

IAS officer

Panaji (PTI): A case has been registered against an IAS officer and his wife for allegedly cheating the Panaji corporation. A complaint had been lodged alleging that R.P. Pal had arranged for a payment of Rs 147 every day from the corporation to his wife by creating an account in the name of a fictitious day labourer.
