JOA panel begins probe

Jamshedpur, Sept. 2: The three-member panel constituted by the Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) made a spot inquiry over the alleged assault on state athletics chief Madhu Kant Pathak by deputy superintendent of police Arif Imam.

The team comprising Bholanath Singh, Anil Kumar Jayaswal and Suresh Kumar arrived spoke to injured athletes, technical officials, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) vice-president Kripal Singh and senior athletes, who were present at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on August 30. The team also took note of damaged equipment and bloodstains at the stadium entrance.

Jayaswal, the vice-president of the JOA, said: “We would submit our report to the JOA at a meeting in Ranchi tomorrow. The report would be routed to the IOA,” he added.

Sources close to them revealed that, prima facie, they have found Imam guilty. It is also believed that legal proceedings against Imam were on the cards. Meanwhile, JAA secretary Budhwa Oraon has lodged an FIR against Imam, his son and a constable of the Bistupur police station under the prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act.
