DPS boy drowns in school pool

New Delhi, Aug. 29: Mohammad Nadir, 11, today drowned in the pool at Delhi Public School’s Mathura Road branch where he was a student.

He is the second DPS student to die on campus in a week, after Pushpanjali Raj, 16, who fell off the fifth floor of the RK Puram branch hostel.

“The body of Mohammad Nadir was discovered around 5.30pm,” a police official said.

The boy was dropped at the school by his father Mohammad Raeez, a motor mechanic, at 4pm for evening classes.

Swimming coach Arun Kumar found Nadir lying in the pool when he opened the gates this evening, police said. The pool remains closed till 5pm.

Principal M.I. Husain was not available for comment, but school sources said Nadir may have scaled the boundary wall and fallen into the pool by accident.
