Agartala, Aug. 25: The Tripura unit of the Forward Bloc has returned to the Left Front after parting ways with it following a dispute over seat sharing in the run-up to the Assembly elections held early this year.
Brajagopal Roy and Satish Saha, two senior Forward Bloc leaders, yesterday attended a Left Front meeting that discussed strategies for the forthcoming byelections to three seats in autonomous district council (ADC) seats, four in nagar panchayats, one in Agartala Municipal Council, eight in panchayat samitis and two in zila parishads besides 116 seats in gaon panchayats and 33 seats in the village committees within the ADC areas.
The meeting decided that the CPM would contest all the three seats in the ADC.
“In the other bodies, the front constituents will recontest seats allotted to them earlier and all the constituents, including the Forward Bloc, have agreed to this,” the newly-elected CPM secretary Bijan Dhar, who presided over the meeting, said.
The state secretary of Forward Bloc, Shyamal Roy, said: “Even when we contested the polls separately, we never said we had parted company with the Left Front.”
