Chinkara minister

Mumbai, Aug. 25 (PTI): Bombay High Court today rejected the bail plea of former Maharashtra minister Dharmarao Atram after it was claimed in court that he had not only killed an endangered chinkara but also “watched it being cut into pieces by his partners in crime”.

Atram has been asked to surrender before the forest sub-divisional officer at Bhor in Pune on August 28.

Fatal foetus

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A woman who refused to abort a female foetus was allegedly strangled by her in-laws in a village on Sunday. The victim’s brother Sushil Kumar has alleged that Neelam was under pressure from her husband’s family to get her foetus aborted. The body was cremated without informing her parents, Kumar said. The in-laws are absconding.

Lion kills boy

Ahmedabad (PTI): A lion killed an eight-year-old boy in a village near the Gir wildlife sanctuary, forest officials said. The forest department has launched a search for the man-eater lion. The lion dragged away Himmat Parmar on Saturday night when the boy was asleep in his hut with his family. “The lion had eaten the flesh of the boy,” a forest official said.

Leopard dies

Bhopal (PTI): A female leopard of the Van Vihar National Park was found dead on Monday after getting entangled in a rope in its enclosure. It is suspected that Sidhi died of suffocation. The leopard got trapped while trying to cross her enclosure.

Kids drown

Hyderabad (PTI): Two children drowned in a pond on Monday when they went for a dip, without knowing how to swim. Hearing the cries of Salman,13, and Haneef, 12, while drowning, a security guard jumped into the water but was unable to save them.

Mahout

Idukki (PTI): A mahout died on Sunday after he fell with his elephant from a moving truck near Kerala’s Idukki. Maitheen, 64, was crushed under the weight of the pachyderm.
