Surgery blindness

Tiruchirappalli, Aug. 24 (PTI): Six of 45 people have lost their eyesight after being allegedly administered contaminated eye drops during a cataract operation at a private hospital. Thirty-nine others have complained of loss of vision.

A team on Saturday visited the hospital in Perambalur to inspect the operation theatre and collect samples of the eye drop. Patients from different villages underwent the operation during a camp jointly conducted by a blindness prevention society and the hospital.

ATM fraud

Coimbatore (PTI): A part-time courier service employee has been arrested for allegedly withdrawing more than Rs 50,000 using a debit card, that was to be posted to Calcutta.

Taslima

New Delhi (PTI): Taslima Nasreen is likely to leave India for a European country because her movement here is severely restricted for her security, sources said. The Bangladeshi author had returned to India from Sweden early this month.

Army pension

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has ruled that a soldier cannot claim disability pension for an injury that did not occur on army duty.
