...And the winner is

Haneet, Arvind and Amit — better known as the Mausere Bhai from Punjab in the world of Indian reality television — sang their way to the Waar Pariwaar crown on Sunday night. t2 spoke to an ecstatic Haneet minutes after the win on the Sony show.

Haneet, how does it feel like to be the first Waar Pariwaar winners?

Abhi tak feeling sink in nahin huyee hai. It’s a dream come true for all three of us. To think that we were a standby team at the beginning of show and have emerged winners just five months later is unbelievable. It’s been a great journey. We have faced a lot of problems but the support from the public and the encouragement from the judges have been incredible. Jatinji (music director and Waar Pariwaar judge Jatin Pandit) in particular has been a great inspiration.

At what point of time in the show did you think you could win?

To be honest, there was no such point when we could say that, “Yes, we can win this.” Though we have always got consistently good comments from the judges and the public has also been favourably disposed towards us, we had a number of tough competitors to contend with. Moreover, one can’t really be sure about what awaits you on a particular episode because audience voting has always had a history of being unpredictable.

Given the kind of competition that you had to face, what do you think worked in your favour?

The fact that we didn’t just go up on stage and simply sing. Every act of ours was a performance. We put our hearts and souls into preparing and performing for the show. Moreover, as the judges have always pointed out, it is our positive attitude that singled us out from the rest. I remember Jatinji telling us on one occasion: “Aise gaana gaao ki sirf aap na naache, janta bhi khud khade hoke naache.” And that is something that we kept in mind throughout the whole of Waar Pariwaar.

What have been some of the memorable moments on the show?

The most memorable episode for us was undoubtedly the dedication episode in which we had to dedicate songs to our loved ones. I lost my father years ago and singing a song dedicated to him was special... something I won’t ever forget.

We know the winning feeling hasn’t sunk in yet, but where do Mausere Bhai go from here?

We are planning to come out with an album together in the next couple of months. We will start working towards that very soon. Right now, all we want is to go back home after five long months. Jeet ka nasha abhi toh sirf chadha hai!
