q:I need to buy a vehicle that seats about eight people and can carry a lot of luggage as well. My family often travels through forested areas so we need something that can tackle the most basic of roads. My budget is Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. My top two choices are the Mahindra Scorpio and the Toyota Innova and I have also considered the Rhino due to its lower price tag, but am not too sure about it. What are the service costs of the Innova? Please advise.
a: The Innova is the best vehicle of the lot but it does not have a 4 X 4 option and sufficient ground clearance to be suitable for off-roading. The Rhino is an unknown quantity and our brief drive in the vehicle left us completely dissatisfied. So we suggest you go in for the Scorpio 4 x 4 despite its shortcomings as there is no other vehicle in this class that suits your needs better.
q:I currently own a four-year-old Opel Corsa that gives poor fuel economy and has average looks. I plan to upgrade to a luxury car and my budget is around Rs 15 lakh. I have shortlisted the Honda Civic automatic and the Skoda Laura. I am inclined towards the Civic and want to know if the 1.8 S model has been discontinued? Im looking for a comfortable car with good looks and quality interiors. It should also be fuel-efficient.
a:It is our suggestion that you go for the Laura. It is very comfortable, has solid interiors and above all, it is more fuel-efficient than the Civic. However, its maintenance costs are higher than the Civic. You will do well to be prepared in advance for this. Honda has stopped selling its S model and now offers the E and V variants.
