Railway theft

Bongaigaon, Aug. 21: Transport minister Chandan Brahma on Thursday instructed the district administration to take action against a gang of thieves which has been stealing railway material from New Bongaigaon workshop.

The minister recently held a meeting with several officials, including Bongaigaon deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu and superintendent of police Lachit Baruah, at the chief workshop manager’s office on the thefts.

Rebels held

Dhubri: Two Ulfa militants, Madhusudan Roy and Monu Roy, were apprehended by 21 Jat regiment based at Agomoni in Dhubri on Thursday. Twenty-seven rounds of live ammunition of AK-47 rifles were seized from them.

Damaged

Dibrugarh: A group partially damaged an office of the Namrup unit of the All Assam Students Union. Police are yet to identify the culprits.

Rapist in jail

Chirang: Police sent 26-year-old Subhash Goyary to jail on Thursday on charges of raping a seven-year-old at her residence at Hatimara under Bijni police station.
