The vowel gang

Biswanath Chakraborty is not trying to teach us the vowel sounds in his debut film. Safar: The Journey of A.E.I..U gets its title from the initials of the film’s five main characters, explains the telefilm-maker.

Safar is about five friends and their journey together,” says Biswanath.

Abir (Arijit Chowdhury) dreams of being a doctor, while Emon (Raja Chatterjee) hopes to make it big as a singer. Indra (Chitrankar Sen) is the rich kid with a golden heart who is always ready to help his friends, and is Oslima (Moubani Sorcar, the second daughter of magician PC Sorcar Jr) who goes abroad for studies. Ujjal (Sahitya Mitra), who wants to be a journalist and forms the point of crisis in the film.

“Ujjal is thrown behind bars by villain Rajatava Dutta and his property confiscated when his father dies. But his friends forget Ujjal, leaving him to rot in jail. Till Oslima returns home and gets Ujjal out,” says the debutant director.

Produced by Swabhumi Entertainment, Safar has seven songs sung by Shaan, Kumar Sanu, Jojo and Rupankar. The Safar team will travel to Kurseong and Gangtok for the outdoor shoot. The song sequences will be shot in Digha.
