On a high note

Looking back, the release of my first album Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat Tumse in 1998 was my biggest turning point.

The album was an instant hit and I began to get noticed. It also won me the Channel V award for Best Indian Music Video of the year. But I had to do something to follow it up. I composed and sang my first film song Sajna aa bhi jaa, for Waisa Bhi Hota Hai in 2003. This was followed by songs for films like Zinda (2006) and 1971 (2007) and many more movies.

Another interesting break was doing the television show Bathroom Singer on Sahara Filmy channel — I was one of the judges. This broadened my horizon and now I’m open to television shows because it is a different experience alltogether.

Currently I’m looking forward to the release of the Hollywood flick Blood Money Trail for which I have composed music and I might also sing some of the songs. I’m excited about the release of the film and am expecting a positive response.

(As told to Chitra Papnai)
