Doctors beaten up at RG Kar

Junior doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital started a ceasework on Wednesday evening after two of them were beaten up by a patient’s relatives. Dilip Saha, a resident of Gouribari, was brought to the emergency ward around 4.30pm with breathing problems. Arguing that the doctors did not attend to him, Saha’s relatives allegedly beat up two junior doctors and ransacked the ward. Later, three of Saha’s relatives were detained by cops. The hospital authorities said Saha was admitted and his condition was stable.

Woman held

A woman from Noapara in Barrackpore was charged with fraud and arrested by officers of the airport police station on Wednesday morning. Reena Roy, 30, was arrested from her residence on the basis of a complaint lodged by the authorities of Axis Bank, which has a branch at the airport. According to police, Roy had deposited a fake cheque and withdrawn Rs 90,000 . During verification, bank officials discovered the cheque was fake. Sleuths identified Roy on the basis of descriptions provided by bank employees and CCTV footage.

CU results

The results of BA, B.Sc and B.Com Part-III (general) examinations under 1+1+1 pattern were declared by Calcutta University on Wednesday. The pass percentage in BA is 90.76. In B.Sc, the pass percentage is 95.70, while in B.Com, nearly 93.64 per cent students passed

Road death

A 45-year-old woman was killed after a private bus knocked her down at the intersection of Rashbehari Avenue and Sarat Bose Road on Wednesday evening. Cops said the driver of the killer bus — on route 3C/1/2 — escaped after hitting Purnima Biswas, a resident of Santoshpur. Traffic cops rushed her to RK Mission Sevapratishthan, where she died.

Youth dies

An unidentified cyclist aged about 20 years was dashed by a lorry at the intersection of Shahapur Road and Ustad Alauddin Khan Sarani in south Calcutta on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was taken to CMRI Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The lorry fled. A case has been registered with New Alipore police and a hunt is on for the driver.

Excess cash

Customs officials seized Rs 47,000 from two passengers to Bangkok on Wednesday. Amit Patil, a grocer from Mumbai, and his friend, Taushid Sawant, were completing Customs formalities when the excess money was detected. Patil was carrying Rs 72,000 in Indian and Thai currencies, while Sawant had Rs 50,000. Since fliers are allowed to carry only Rs 25,000 each, the excess amount was seized and they were allowed to board the flight, sources said.
