Sun struck

Did you know that even plants were susceptible to sunburn? Well, they are, and farmers in Chile, Australia and California are testing sunscreen meant for use on fragile fruits and vegetables like apples, tomatoes, lychees, kiwis and grapes. Farmers are highly concerned as even a little burnt skin can lead to huge fall in the prices of their produce. Therefore, they are keen on trying the new sunscreen on their crops. Like humans, plants also perspire. The process by which plants perspire is called transpiration, as a result of which they need more water. Purfresh, a company based in Fremont, has come out with a sunblock that includes calcium carbonate crystals. It is believed that this sunscreen is going to help improve a plant’s water efficiency and eventually facilitate the conservation of water and energy.

Superhero’s here

Life would be so much fun if every once in a while you could meet your superhero. Such dreams came true on August 2, when kids in Calcutta got a chance to meet Ninja Hattori, the popular toon hero, in person. He played several games with the children and one lucky kid was crowned the Hero of the Day. Catch the School ka Hero contest on Nick for more.
