Help run over by lorry
Amarjit Rajbhat, a lorry driver’s help, died after being crushed by the wheels of the vehicle in Jagaddal, North 24-Parganas, on Sunday night. Police said the 30-year-old was sleeping under the vehicle when the soil around the wheels softened because of rain and the vehicle rolled over him.
Body found
The body of Prasun Kumar Banerjee, 56, was found floating in a pond near his Abhaypada Kundu Lane home in Howrah on Monday morning. Police said the visually-challenged had been missing since Sunday evening but the family members did not lodge a police complaint. Banerjee lived with his brother.
Airport alert
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport was put on red alert from Monday because of Independence Day. The alert will remain in force till August 17. Visitors cannot enter the domestic and international terminals till August 20.
Special trains
South Eastern Railway will run a pair of superfast specials between Howrah and Puri on the eve of Independence Day. The train will leave Howrah on Thursday at 8.55pm and reach Puri at 5.50am the next day. The Down train will leave Puri on Sunday at 10 pm and reach Howrah at 7.05am on August18, said an official.
