No-trust meet on Monday

Kalimpong, Aug. 8: The chairman of the Kalimpong Municipality, C.K. Kumai, has called a special meeting of the board of councillors (BoC) on Monday to take up the Opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion.

Kumai, however, has already resigned his posts as chairman and councillor. His deputy, Karna Hang Subba, and another councillor, Aditya Rai, too, have announced their resignations.

According to municipal rules, the board has to formally accept the resignations. Until then Kumai will remain the chairman. Another BoC meeting has been called on August 13 to decide on the resignations. The board is expected to meet for the third time after Independence Day celebrations to elect the new chairman.

Chamling on blockade

Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling today hit out at the Morcha for frequently blocking NH31A, the Himalayan state’s only road link to the rest of the country, reports our Gangtok correspondent.

Yesterday, too, the party set up blockades on the highway in neighbouring Darjeeling district, the fallout of a misunderstanding between police and Morcha supporters on signature campaign. “Enough is enough…We have good wishes for their Gorkhaland movement but why are they blocking our roads regularly?” said Chamling at a programme here. He, however, did not name the Morcha.
