Techie suicide

Pune, Aug. 8 (PTI): A 25-year-old IT engineer jumped to his death from the seventh floor of his office yesterday, blaming work pressure for his decision

his suicide note, Sandip Shelke said he was depressed because of mounting work pressure, police said on Friday. His company officials, however, said he was their “star performer”. Sandeep, an MTech from IIT Mumbai, was working as a team leader. He had sent a text message to his brother before committing suicide.

Flight scare

Vijayawada (PTI): Sixty-five passengers of a Hyderabad-bound flight, including senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu, escaped unhurt following a bird hit while taking off. The flight made an emergency landing after the 1pm mishap. Two Congress MLAs were also on board.

Train safety

New Delhi (PTI): The railways have decided to implement a water mist system to deal with fires on train. The high-pressure system is considered very efficient in fighting fire, a railway disaster management official said.

Encounter

Mumbai (PTI): Two alleged members of the Chhota Rajan gang were killed in an encounter in the Pantnagar police station area on Friday.

World record

Chennai (PTI): A 26-year-old painter is seeking a second entry into the Guinness World Records by painting a portrait non-stop for 48 hours holding the paint brush in his mouth. R Rajendran will attempt the feat in New Delhi on August 16 and 17. Last year he set a record by painting a portrait of Mother Teresa on a 30ft long and 20ft high canvas in 12 days holding the brush in his mouth.

‘Hawala’ man

Jamnagar (PTI): A man suspected of running a hawala racket was caught carrying Rs 30 lakh from the Khambhadia taluka, police said. The man, who claimed to be working for a courier service, was detained on Thursday. The police said the money had been sent from Dubai to Ahmedabad and was being sent to Ahir using the service.
