Woman beaten up
Basanti Sardar, 40, was beaten up by residents of Baruipur on Thursday after they saw her with a child and suspected her of being a child lifter. Five policemen were injured and a police van was damaged by the mob when they intervened. A huge contingent was deployed to maintain law and order. Basanti was later arrested. “We will interrogate her,” said Ajey Ranade, the district superintendent of police.
Train timings
The Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express has been rescheduled and will leave Howrah at 9.30am on Friday instead of 9.55pm on Thursday, while the Howrah-LTT Jnaneswari Express will leave Howrah at 10am on Friday instead of at 10.55pm on Thursday, a South-Eastern Railway spokesperson said on Thursday.
House looted
Burglars broke into a house in Salt Lake on Thursday and decamped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 20 lakh when the owner was not home. Kalyan Kumar Das of AE 702 discovered that a window grille had been cut open and called the cops.
