Meeting
Dhubri, Aug. 6:
A meeting was held today at Tabochar near Satrasal in Dhubri district to protest against the alleged branding of mosques as “sanctuaries for terrorists” by the Centre. The meeting, attended by members of Dhubri district unit of Jamiat-ulema-hind and All Assam Quami Madrassa Union, said they were ready to face any inquiry if any mosque in the district was found to harbour terrorists.

Guwahati:
Over 50 CPM members from Rangia Assembly constituency joined the Congress at an official function held at Rajiv Bhawan here on Wednesday.
Demand
Sivasagar:
The Amguri anchalik panchayat recently decided to send a memorandum to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi demanding the immediate arrest of the killers of Hemanta Boruah, a panchayat president, who was shot dead on July 29. They have also demanded that the case be handed over to the CID.
Sentence
Dhubri:
The district and sessions judge of Dhubri on Wednesday sentenced Abdul Samad of Madhusoulmari village in the district for “depriving” his wife Rasida Begum of motherhood. Rasida had filed the case last year.
